How did Adeptus start?
Adeptus Minneapolis was founded in June 2002 by Kevin, Steve and James to form a group of people who, despite adulthood, still liked to get together to roll some dice and talk about armor saves. Adeptus Minneapolis gave players across the Twin Cities a way to connect with, and game with, one another. In the process, it gave those gamers a community full of like minded folk to game, hobby or just hang out with.
Who we are?
Adeptus Minneapolis (or AM) is made up of area gamers from all across the Twin Cities (and sometimes beyond). Since the Twin Cities is a big place, we often use the AM Forum to stay in touch, schedule games, or just shoot the breeze during a boring day at work. Our leadership has changed since 2002. Currently the club is run by four democratically elected dictators for life; Aaron, Nick, Sam and Tor. If you want to ask us a question, even if it's "why do you get to be dictator for life?" the best way to do so is through the AM Forum. As you can see, we don't take ourselves seriously at all. We'll still throw you in the Gulag for asking insubordinate questions, though.
What we do.
Adeptus Minneapolis has evolved since 2002. Originally based around the miniatures game Warhammer 40,000, it has expanded as more members have joined and the original players' interests have changed. These days AM players are involved in Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy, the Privateer Press games Warmachine and Hordes, and other games such as Mordhiem, Battle Fleet Gothic, AT-43 and plenty of others. AM is also in the habit of running tournaments and events such as painting leagues and narrative campaigns. These take place periodically, and an AM sponsored event can be run by any AM member with a bright idea and the will to pursue it. Just let the leadership (or your fellow gamers) know, and we'll help you get things off the ground.
What it takes to be an AM member.
We could say that being an AM member includes you in a selective group of qualified individuals, but we can't keep a straight face long enough to get all that out. To be an AM member you need to be over 18, willing to pay the club dues of $20 a year and willing to get to know and play with your fellow club members. The last requirement is self explanatory, but some of you might be wondering about the age requirement. It's there for two reasons. The first is practical: AM isn't a baby-sitter, and we will not take responsibility for any underage individuals. Parents who think about using AM as a day care, this means you! The second reason is that since all our members are adults, we like to keep our discourse on a more "mature" level (and yes, both definitions of the word "mature" can be used there). Now some of you might also be wondering what we do with your $20, besides fill up a swimming pool with gold dollars. The dues money is used to maintain our web site and fund tournaments and events.
Where we meet?
For many years, Adeptus Minneapolis has made its "home" at local game stores. For a while, that was Phoenix Games on Lake Street (now closed). Recently, we've moved location to Tower Games on 48th and Nicolett in South Minneapolis. AM isn't tied directly to any one game store, and members are encouraged to play wherever is most convenient for them. However, Tower Games provides a central location for us to have our meetings, and many of our members frequent it. If you want to meet a few of us face to face, Tower is a good place to start. That's the basics about AM. If you've got any questions, feel free to register and start asking them.
